Here is a copy of the language arts class policies. These policies apply to grades 6th - 8th. 6th and 8th graders will be meeting with me on Monday, and they will be provided with a copy of the policies. Parents are asked to review the policies, sign, and return them.

Language Arts Policies
Distribution of Grades
Sixth and eighth grade students will receive 2 grades from this class. Seventh grade students will receive 3 grades from this class:

Notebook/Class notes and Materials
Over the course of the year, students will be creating their own language arts notebook. You will learn and record key concepts and key terms. Your notebook will become a study aide and resource to help you succeed in language arts.
Guidelines:
In a 5-subject notebook, each section will be a sub-section of language arts:

Writing

Grammar

Vocabulary

Spelling

All notes must be taken in Cornell note format
o
The left side should be used for drawings, diagrams and ticket out the door.
o
The right side should be all the information given by me.
•
All key terms and important concepts should be highlighted.
•
Each lesson should have the objective on the top left hand side.
•
All handouts given must be glued or taped into the notebook.
•
Lesson quizzes must be glued/taped at the end of the lesson, once graded and returned.
•
Any textbook work given must be completed in the work section of your notebook.
•
All notes and assignments must be completed in order, even if absent.
Homework
All homework is due on its due date; no exceptions, unless the student is absent. Then, the assignment is due upon return. Students will often be assigned computer work as homework. If, the student does not have access to a computer, they can work on the classroom computers after school when supervised by a teacher/Boys and Girls Club Counselor.

Unsigned paychecks will be considered as a missing assignment
•
Students will receive a deduction on their paycheck for each missing assignment
•
Three missing assignments in a trimester will result in a detention
Late Work
There is no late work accepted. You must come prepared to class.
Absences
If a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility to make- up any missed work. Students will be provided with 1 extra day to make-up missed work.
Quizzes and Tests
Students will have a short quiz at the end of each lesson.
•
Use your notebook, quizzes, ticket out the door, and worksheets to study for all unit tests.
Students will have a unit test at the end of each literature unit, every three vocabulary units, and at the end of each grammar concept unit.
Writing Assignments
Students will be doing an extensive amount of writing in this class. Students will be guided through the writing process in class.
Final drafts of writing assignments must be turned in on time, typed, and double-spaced.
