Thank you to my students and parents of 2015 - 2016

Dear Parents and Students,

Thank you for a phenomenal school year.  I have truly enjoyed getting to know and teaching all of you.  This year has been filled with so many wonderful memories with not only 7th grade, but all of my middle school classes.  I take pride in being a Saint Anne School teacher, because it's not only a school but a community and a family.  This year I have had the pleasure of watching all of my students flourish, grow, and learn.  Many students have not only met the academic standards we set for them, but they exceeded them.  I am so proud of each and every one of my student's growth and progress.

I wish all of you a wonderful summer!

Summer 2016 Assignments for 6-8th Grades

Dear Parents and Students,

Summer is here and school is almost done!  I am sure you are excited to enjoy your time off with family and friends.  While summer is a time for rest, relaxation, and fun; it should also be a time for learning.  There are many studies that document summer learning loss and it's dramatic effect on student performance.

"Summer learning loss is a well-documented phenomenon, with students losing between one and two months' worth of academic knowledge each summer. And low-income students suffer a steeper rate of loss than their peers - half of the achievement gap seen in reading can be attributed to summer loss."  (Anne OBrien Deputy Director of the Learning First Alliance)

In order to avoid learning loss I strongly encourage parents to consider enrolling their student in an academic program, following a summer reading program, and completing the following summer reading assignment.  Students should be academically engaged at least 1 hour per day during the summer.

Here is a flyer from the Santa Monica Library about available summer programs:

8th Graders: The Outsiders - Novel Order Money

Dear Parents,
In the next few weeks, we will begin our novel study of The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton in Language Arts.  I will be placing the orders for the novel from Amazon.com.  The novel is currently $6.09.  Please provide this amount by Monday, April 4th.  Students can provide cash or a check payable to Saint Anne School. It is important that all of the students provide the money on time, in order for the order to be placed, and the books delivered in a timely manner.  The students will keep their copy of their novel for their personal library.
Summary of The Outsiders:
A landmark work of American fiction first published in 1967, S. E. Hinton's novel was an immediate phenomenon. Today, The Outsiders continues to resonate with its powerful portrait of the bonds and boundaries of friendship.
In Ponyboy's world there are two types of people. There are the Socs, the rich society kids who get away with anything. Then there are the greasers, like Ponyboy, who aren't so lucky. Ponyboy has a few things he can count on: his older brothers, his friends, and trouble with the Socs, whose idea of a good time is beating up greasers. At least he knows what to expect — until the night someone takes things go too far. (Scholastic)
