Summer 2016 Assignments for 6-8th Grades


Dear Parents and Students,

Summer is here and school is almost done!  I am sure you are excited to enjoy your time off with family and friends.  While summer is a time for rest, relaxation, and fun; it should also be a time for learning.  There are many studies that document summer learning loss and it's dramatic effect on student performance.


"Summer learning loss is a well-documented phenomenon, with students losing between one and two months' worth of academic knowledge each summer. And low-income students suffer a steeper rate of loss than their peers - half of the achievement gap seen in reading can be attributed to summer loss."  (Anne OBrien Deputy Director of the Learning First Alliance)

In order to avoid learning loss I strongly encourage parents to consider enrolling their student in an academic program, following a summer reading program, and completing the following summer reading assignment.  Students should be academically engaged at least 1 hour per day during the summer.

Summer Assignments for 6th - 8th Graders:

The summer assignment has 2 components:
1. Read a novel from the provided link, and upon returning to school take an AR test on it.

2. Complete the www.noredink.com assignment that has been assigned to your class.

*Incoming 6th graders need to create an account on www.noredink.com in order to complete their assignment.  

Here are the steps to create an account:

a. Go to www.noredink.com
b. Click on "Create an Account"
c. Create a username, use your first initial and last name (Ex. mmoussa)
d. Create a password, use your Clever login or an easy to remember password
(You don't need an e-mail address in order to create an account)
e. Enter the class code: 4wvfdk3w
